Kristen's Lingering Ache
Kristen had always been meticulous about her oral hygiene, so the dull, throbbing ache that had settled in her lower jaw came as an unwelcome surprise. At first, she dismissed it as a minor irritation, perhaps from a stray popcorn kernel or an overly enthusiastic brushing session. She tried rinsing with salt water and hoped it would simply disappear overnight, as minor annoyances often do.
But the ache persisted, growing more insistent with each passing day. Soon, a small, tender bump emerged on her gums near her back molars. Kristen poked at it gingerly with her tongue, a rising sense of unease bubbling within her. It wasn't just a sore spot anymore; it felt like something was definitely wrong.
"Maybe it's just a canker sore, or something stress-related?" she mused to her friend Mark over coffee. Mark, ever the pragmatist, raised an eyebrow. "A bump on your gum sounds more serious, Kristen. You really should get that checked out." His words, while direct, resonated with her growing worry.
